Jones Jam a Hit More than 85 students from Jones and many other high schools converged on Jones on February 1 for the JONES JAM - a 12-hour creative festival where students teamed up to design original video games and learned a lot in the process. Congratulations to the Jones Makerspace/CS Club, the student leaders of ChiCode, and the Jones student mentors who supported Jones Jam participants throughout the event. Many thanks to Ms. Lilagan, Mr. Hilbrands, Mr. Kolody, and all the parent and teacher chaperones for contributing to the event’s great success. A special thanks to Friends of Jones for staffing parent volunteers and funding Jones Jam meals. Black Student Union Black History Month Events The Black Student Union is sponsoring a series of educational and entertaining events this month in honor of Black History Month, including a showcase on February 22, at 6 PM, in the Robin Bennett Theater. Veteran or newcomer, there’s always more to discover. You like a super obscure genre? There’s an anime out there for you! You want the unlimited visual creativity of cartoons with the mature story lines of Live Action TV shows? We’ve got you covered!” The Chicago Architecture Center is proud to announce the 37th annual Newhouse Architecture + Design Competition! This program showcases the talents of Chicago-area youth in areas of Advanced Architecture, Digital & Physical Modeling, Industrial Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Photography. The competition inspires teens to understand why design matters by researching, representing, and redesigning the built environment to solve challenges that are personal and place-based. The competition partners with firms, non-profits, and studios working on Chicago-focused issues. Registration is open through April 19, and projects are due on May 9. City Bureau CIVIC REPORTING FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION Founded in 2015, City Bureau is a nonprofit civic journalism lab based in Woodlawn on the South Side of Chicago. The City Bureau Civic Reporting Fellowship is a paid, 11-week opportunity for emerging/early-career reporters. Fellows will work in teams with our experienced Reporting Residents to produce a journalism project on a single, big-picture sociopolitical issue facing communities on Chicago’s South and West Sides.
