Each club reads and discusses four books in community each school year. The clubs are moderated by teachers from multiple departments. The brief organizational meeting for all four clubs - freshman, sophomore, junior and senior - will take place in the school library at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, October 26. Filipino American History Month October 2021 Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California, after Latinas/os and African Americans. The October observance commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States, which occurred on October 18, 1587, when “Luzones Indios” came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Esperanza and landed at what is now Morro Bay, California. National Museum of Mexican Day of the Dead Exhibit, September 10 – December 12, 2021 The 35th annual Day of the Dead exhibition pays tribute to and remembers the numerous individuals from Mexico and the U.S. who in the past two years have died from COVID-19. The exhibits invite guests to contemplate this moment with new artistic expressions by local artists and site-specific installations created by artists from both sides of the US-Mexico border.
