December 10, 2019 Dear Jones Students, Just Take a Book Week 2019 Be sure to check out lots of books to read over winter break! Starting today all books checked out before winter break won’t be due until January 21, 2020. Check out the books page of the library website for lots of tips and tools for identifying your next great read! I challenge every student to read at least ONE title from the Immigrants and Refugees Booklist. Be a part of the conversation! Also consider checking out titles from the Lincoln Award Nominee List, the CPL Best of the Best Books for Teens, or any of the newer books purchased this fall. Immigrants & Refugees Booklist / Illegal by by Eoin Colfer; illustrated by Giovanni Rigano This graphic work transforms staggering statistics (UN High Commissioner of Refugees reports that 70.8 million have been forcibly displaced) into a resonating story about a single boy and what remains of his family. Ebo is alone. His sister left months ago. Now his brother has disappeared too, and Ebo knows it can only be to make the hazardous journey to Europe. His epic journey takes him across the Sahara Desert to the dangerous streets of Tripoli, and finally out to the merciless sea. A creators’ note and quotes from real refugees round out this illuminating, important volume. Immigrants & Refugees Booklist Open Book Discussion of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L.
