The library will likely open in time for the ac lab period. The library will definitely be open to students before school from 7-8 AM and after school. Best of luck to all the students taking the PSAT tomorrow. Do your best! Abraham Lincoln Award: Illinois Teen Readers' Choice Award Great YA Titles!! The Abraham Lincoln Award is awarded annually to the author of the book voted as most outstanding by participating students in grades 9-12 in Illinois. The award, sponsored by the Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE), is named for Abraham Lincoln, one of Illinois' most famous residents and himself an avid reader and noted author. The award is designed to encourage high school students to read for personal satisfaction, to become familiar with authors of young adult and adult books, and to become lifelong readers. Spring Break Field trip to SPAIN for all class years Jones College Prep is offering a magnificent opportunity for students to travel to Spain, April 8-19, 2019. Destination cities include Seville, Málaga, Granada, and Madrid. Student travelers will enjoy great travel, lodgings, food, culture, tours, shopping, and camaraderie. Students from all class years are welcome and Spanish language experience is not required. The teacher chaperones are Spanish teacher and Granada native Mr. Marcos González Díaz, English teacher Ms. Olivia Guerrero, and school librarian Mr. Fran Feeley. MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant Winners at YOUmedia TOMORROW, Wednesday, October 10, at 4:30 PM The MacArthur Foundation “supports creative people, effective institutions, and influential networks building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world.” The MacArthur Fellowship, also known as “Genius Grants,” awards grants annually to 20 to 30 citizens or residents of the United States, of any age and working in any field, who "show exceptional merit and promise for continued and enhanced creative work." MacArthur Fellows are gathering in Chicago this week, and three of them are hosting a Q&A for teens at the Harold Washington YOUmedia space at 400 S State St. The Fellows are James Fructerman (adaptive technologies for persons with disabilities), Jason De León, (anthropologist/US-Mexican border), and Laura Poitras, (filmmaker/ social-political documentaries/military conflicts).
