February 1, 2022 Dear Jones Community, Black History Month 2022: Black Health and Wellness *** Art by Tiffany Conway-Cornelius, projectgetfree.com Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. This year's theme, Black Health and Wellness, pays homage to medical scholars and health care providers. Check out this NPR story behind Black History Month. AP Resource Project Survey! Fiction Readers Wanted for Brief Survey Do you love to read fiction? Has fiction enriched your inner world and/or brought you a comforting distraction during a rough patch? Are you currently at least halfway through a self-selected fictional novel? If so, please consider helping out Joanna Soltys, a Jones senior taking AP Research this year. Inspired by her passion for fictional worlds, Joanna created a survey to see if someone’s motivation for reading fiction affects the benefits they receive from it. If you plan on reading today or sometime this week, please take 4-8 minutes to answer these questions before and after you read. The survey is confidential, and all responses will remain anonymous with the exception of those that choose to provide their email for a potential follow-up interview.
