International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. American Library Association Youth Media Awards - The Medals Each year the American Library Association (ALA) honors books, videos, and other outstanding materials for children and teens. You certainly have spotted many of the medals imprinted on the covers of award-winning books, and they are a solid indication of the high quality of the work. Among those awards are the following: The Coretta Scott King Award recognizes African American authors and illustrators of outstanding books for children and young adults. The Pura Belpré Award honors Latinx writers and illustrators whose children's and young adult books best portray, affirm and celebrate the Latino cultural experience. The Stonewall Book Award is given annually to children’s and young adult books of exceptional merit relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience. The Schneider Family Book Award honors books that embody an artistic expression of the disability experience. The Printz Award honors excellence in literature written for young adults. The Alex Award celebrates the ten best adult books that appeal to teen audiences. The YALSA Award honors excellence in nonfiction for young adults (ages 12-18). Jones Jam THIS WEEKEND, March 19, 2022: Brought to you by the Jones Computer Science Honor Society Do you want to explore the endless potential of computer science, from music and video game development to robotics and cybersecurity? Want to learn to code or how you can expand your computer science expertise? How about learning about what it’s like to work in tech? You can experience all of this and so much more at Jones College Prep’s third annual Jones Jam, a “jam-packed” day filled with interactive workshops, speakers from tech companies, and delicious food (including ice cream)! What’s more, the whole event is FREE, and NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Jones Jam will be taking place on Saturday, March 19 from 8:00 AM - 3:15 PM at Jones College Prep, 700 S. State Street. Anastasia: The Musical at Jones, March 24-27, 2022 Book by Terrence McNally, Music by Stephen Flaherty, Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens Her past is a mystery. Her future is an adventure. Anastasia is a spectacular musical about discovering who you are and defining who you’re meant to be. Performances will take place in the Robin Bennett Theater, Thursday, March 24 - Saturday, March 26 at 7:00 PM plus a matinee on Sunday, March 27, at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the box office. But what happens when students start canceling each other? Above the Noise investigates the difference between “calling out” and “calling in,” and Myles talks with high schoolers about the pros and cons of taking personal grievances public on social media.
